Breeding Schedule
2010 Swiss Kids are due in February! Take a look (below) at last year's kids.
The kids will be old
enough and fit enough to leave the farm at eight weeks of age. An
earlier release date is possible, if the newborn is transferring to an
experienced breeder with an existing herd and facilities to care for a
newborn.
At
eight weeks Swiss Kids will be weaned off the bottle, will have started eating
grass and hay and small amounts of good quality grain and loose goat
minerals.
Swiss
Kids are tatooed, de-horned and vaccinated
(CD-T for enterotoxemia and tetanus) by their adoption and release
date. Buyer pays
registraton and transfer of ownership fees for each kid adopted, if
they want to have their kid registered -- I recommend it. These
are nominal fees paid to the American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA).
For
health purposes and to encourage easy temperament and human bonding, we
take all of the new kids from their mothers at birth and put them on an
eight week bottle feeding program where they receive their mother’s
milk. We have never had a case of Caprine
arthritis-encephalitis virus (CAE) in our herd.
We do not ship
kids or adult goats. They must be picked up here at the farm. Care must
be taken when you transport goat kids. Travel is hard on young goats
and can cause illness and even death when appropriate health and safety
measures are not taken.
A
seventy-five dollar ($75.00) deposit
is required to reserve any future Swiss Kid in advance of it’s birth (i.e. 2010 kids). If the kid
you reserve
and hope for is not born, your deposit is refunded. At the time you
make a reservation, you might consider making a first choice and a
second choice. We reserve the right to keep any new kid
for any reason -- If your selection is effected by our decision to keep
a kid, your deposit is refunded. Payment in full can be
made by check two weeks prior to pick up or with cash on the day of
pick up.
